November is the perfect time of the year to experience one of Britain’s oldest traditions: Bonfire Night.

This celebration commemorates the arrest of Guy Fawkes, a member of the regicidal-intentioned Gunpowder Plot who intended to assassinate Kings James I on the 5th of November 1615.

Since then and to celebrate the plot’s failure, Londoners lit bonfires around the city, with this event becoming a yearly tradition in the country, hence the origin of the popular saying “Remember, remember the 5th of November…”

Now this celebration has become a major attraction for locals and tourists alike, as bonfires and firework displays are organised all around the city, giving everybody a chance to witness these spectacular events across the British capital. Some of the firework displays that are not to be missed this year include the one at Alexandra Palace, which will also feature a fun fair for all the family, or Lord Mayor’s Show and Fireworks, in central London, where attendees will be able to watch these displays from both Thames river banksides, which will be closed to traffic.
