World Art Day is celebrated on 15 April and Derby Hotels Collection offers you the chance to enjoy the exclusive art collections housed in its hotels in Madrid, Barcelona, Paris and London.
DHC hotels are located in historic buildings such as palaces, stately homes or emblematic constructions, which stand out for collecting pieces of Ancient and Contemporary Art, making them exclusive museums of incalculable artistic value. "Each hotel has a history depending on the period in which it was built and the place where it is located," says Jordi Clos, president of Derby Hotels Collection.
Located in the heart of the Art Triangle, on the axis of the Prado Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and the Reina Sofia National Art Museum, the Hotel Urban 5*GL is home to the capital's most important private art collection on Papua New Guinea.
In Barcelona, Claris Hotel & Spa 5*GL brings together creations representative of pre-Columbian civilisations. Located in the Palacio Vedruna, a building constructed in 1883 and whose original neoclassical façade has been preserved, Claris Hotel & Spa 5*GL stands out for housing a Museum-Hall that hosts the exhibition 'The Mayas and the splendour of America', made up of more than 50 works, especially focused on representative creations of the Mayan civilisation, but also including other pre-Columbian sculptures from Mesoamerica, Central and Western Mexico, as well as the Andean Area.
Located in the heart of Barcelona's Las Ramblas, the 5* Hotel Bagués has been deeply linked to the city and Modernisme through art, standing as a tribute to the Art Nouveau that made Barcelona one of the world's greatest cultural capitals. Also in Barcelona, the Hotel Astoria 3*, which preserves the classic style of the 1950s, has some 400 pieces, the largest existing collection of paintings and drawings by Ricardo Opisso. Likewise, in the Grand Derby Suite, DHC displays paintings by the most representative authors of Contemporary Art such as Picasso, Dalí, Miró or Tápies, among others.
On an international level, The Caesar 4*, London, has a collection of Roman mosaics, ceramics dating mostly from the 4th and 5th centuries A.D., authentic works of Syrian craftsmanship.
